Single-Phase Arc Flash Calculations

Arc flash analysis for single phase equipment, whether line-to-line or line-to-neutral connected, is performed using the calculated bolted fault current for single phase, the arcing current based on the standard 3-phase equations, trip time from the protective device based on the arc current through the device, and the arc flash energy and arc flash boundary equations in the standards. The IEEE 1584 standard for arc flash analysis suggests using the 3-phase equations provided in the standard, and also mentions that the results will be conservative. Refer to IEEE Std. 1584-2018 article 4.11 Single-phase systems, and IEEE Std. 1584-2002 article 5.1 Ranges of Models.
