Adding Display Conditions

You can add display conditions to each of the format fields or text. This determines whether the text appears.

To add conditions to fields or text:

  1. Click Tools > Options select One-line text.
  2. Next to One-line Text for, select the item for which you want to add a condition. For this example, we have chosen LV Breaker.
  3. In the format box, select the field or text to which you want to add display conditions. You can drag a new field to the box, if desired. For our example, we have added the connection type (Conn Type) field. The area on the right displays the sample text "Feeder." At this point, no conditions are applied.

  5. Click Add Display Condition.

  7. Select the conditions you want to be true that will cause the selected field or text to display. In this example, we have selected to display the Conn Type field value when the connection type is equal to Feeder.

  9. Note that the preview column is set to "Feeder," and the Preview area displays the text, "Feeder."

  11. Click Add Display Condition again.
  12. Select the next display condition. In this case, we want to also display the value when the Conn Type is equal to Tie. We use an "or" statement because we want either condition to be true.
  13. Figure 5: Adding an "Or" Condition

  14. Note that the preview area still displays the text "Feeder." This is because the first condition is still true.

  16. In the preview column on the right, clear the Conn Type text and note that the text no longer appears in the Preview area. This is because the When blank, display box is set to display nothing when the field is blank.

  18. In the Preview column on the right, change the Conn Type text to Tie and note that text appears in the Preview area.

  20. Click OK, and then click Save to store the template changes to the one-line.
  21. Note: If you do not click OK and Save, the custom template formats are not saved to the one-line

Adding Display Conditions to Text

Conditional text works the same way as described above. Select the text for which you want to apply a condition, and then set up the conditions.

In the example below, we have selected to display the value of the maintenance mode field when it is on.

Figure 9: Maintenance Mode field with a Display Condition

Now we add the same display condition to the text. As you can see from the preview, when maintenance mode is on, the text "Maint Mode" appears with the status.

By comparison, when maintenance mode is off, no text or status appears.

Display Condition Tips

The following are some things to keep in mind when creating display conditions:

  • You can have multiple conditions on a field.
  • Be careful how you use "AND" and "OR" conditions, as it will affect your results. Select AND if you want all of the conditions to be true for the field or text to be displayed. Use OR if one condition or another should be true. An OR statement should appear after an AND statement and is automatically grouped with the AND statement. Multiple OR statements are also grouped with the preceding AND statement.
  • Use the preview column values and Preview area on the right to test your display conditions.
  • You can add display conditions to text just as you can to fields. If you have a long line of text and want to apply different conditions to different parts of the text, you can insert a text separator. See Inserting a Text Separator for more information.
